Jagdeo appointed FAO Special Ambassador for Forests, Environment

Former President Bharrat Jagdeo was on July 22, 2016 appointed an FAO Special Ambassador for Forests and the Environment.

According to an FAO press release, the announcement was made by FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva on the final day of the 23rd session of the Organization’s Committee on Forestry (COFO) taking place in Rome.

The release stated that as special ambassador, Jagdeo’s responsibilities include: promoting the role of forests in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals; raising awareness of the vital contributions of forests to food security, rural poverty reduction, employment generation and social integration; and encouraging actions to support the sustainable use of forests and other natural resources.

“Dr Jagdeo has been working with FAO to promote environment and forestry around the world, and we are very happy he joins his voice to our efforts,” said Graziano da Silva.
