Amazon Warriors to begin encampment June 4

The Guyana Amazon Warriors are expected to officially commence their Pre-Hero Caribbean Premier League (HCPL) T20 tournament camp on June 4th while tickets sales for the fourth edition of the “Biggest Party in Sport” are said to be going fast says Manager Omar Khan.

The Warriors will play former champs Jamaica Tallawahs on July 7 at the Providence National Stadium and the local and regional players are expected to be in Guyana within the next few weeks to commence the six-day camp ahead of the June 29 start of the competition.

While skipper Martin Guptill and Aussie leg-spinner Adam Zampa will join the squad during the camp due to ongoing commitments, the other players will begin preparing under Coach Roger Harper, Assistant Coach Esaun Crandon and other members of the Coaching team.

Khan, during yesterday’s media briefing at the new CPL Quamina Streets building said: “Ticket sales have started this morning (yesterday)  and, we’ve had a steady flow of patrons coming to get their tickets which is a good sign; people are calling and asking about tickets, all systems are in place from now until the start of the games.”

He also said that plans are in place to have tickets sold in Berbice and Essequibo while the stadium will also have tickets available.

Ticket prices are $4,000 for the Red and Green stands; $ 3,000 for Orange Stand and $2,000 for  the Grass Mound; fans are reminded that a maximum of ten can be purchased by one per match and the choice of specific seating will depend on availability.

What may be bewildering to some fans is the day match against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots which begins at 12:00 hrs on June 9,

since the usual custom is to have the matches played late afternoons into the nights. Khan addressed the issue, stating that the prescribed time is to accommodate viewership by team owners who are in India and fans in Europe.

“The reason for the 12 noon game, is that this game is being beamed throughout India, throughout Europe and other parts of Asia because the IPL [Indian Premier League] owners specifically requested that this game be held at this time so they can get a viewing audience in India; so it is an opportunity to sell Guyana and expose Guyana to the world.”

The Trinbago Knight Riders are currently owned by Kolkata Knight Rider team owner and Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan while Barbados Tridents have ties with Royal Challenger Bangalore and Dr. Vidya Mallya.

Guyana Amazon Warriors will play four home matches beginning 7 July against the Jamaica Tallawahs from 19:00 hrs then, 9 July – St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. The popular “grudge match” between Guyana and Trinidad will take place  July 10 when the tackle the Trinbago Knight Riders from 19:00 hrs and the final match on home turf is on July 12 against the  St. Lucia Zouks from 19:00 hrs.

The fourth edition of the tournament opens June 29 when Knight Riders host the Zouks at the Queen’s Park Oval from 21:00 hrs.

The Amazon Warriors open their 2016 campaign on the road to the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park on Thursday June 30 at 20:00 Hrs.
