GFF Stag Beer Elite League…

East Coast heavyweights Buxton United and Victoria Kings defeated Topp XX and Monedderlust FC respectively when the first half of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League concluded Monday.

The large crowd at the Buxton Community ground cheered Buxton United to a convincing 3-0 win over Linden unit and cellar occupants Topp XX.

It was only the second win for the home side in the competition.

Dillon Wright opened the scoring in the 15th minute benefiting from a goalkeeping blunder as the Linden custodian inexplicably allowed the ball to burst through his hands at the top of the box, allowing the onrushing forward to tap into the back of the net unchallenged.

Midfielder Denver Dennis then increased the lead in the 37th minute with a sublime strike.

Awarded a free kick 28 yards from the goal and in the centre of the field, the burly Dennis unleashed a powerful right foot shot into the roof of the net, giving the diving custodian no chance.

The score remained unchanged at halftime.

Upon resumption, midfielder Esan Hamer sealed the result with a 50th minute goal.

Collecting a pass from the centre of the field on the right side, the nippy Hamer unleashed a powerful right foot shot which took a slight deflection off a Topp XX defender and went into the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Victoria Kings maintained their grip on third position, edging Berbice unit Monedderlust FC 1-0. Seon Robinson found the back of the net in the 44th minute.

Victoria Kings are now on eight points while the Berbicians remain on three points and in fifth position.

The tournament will take a break for the Christmas season and the upcoming transfer window. It is set to resume in February.

The top two teams at the end of the season will earn berths to the 2018 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Champion-ship.
