Conquerors maul Kings 5-1 to stay second

Fruta Conquerors maintained its grip on second position in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League after defeating Victoria Kings 5-1 Sunday at the Tucville Community Ground.

Despite the lopsided score line, it was anything but a vintage performance from the home side who capitalised on several earlier botched chances by the visitors.

Eon Alleyne opened the scoring in the 26th minute, latching onto a cross from Pernell Schultz outside the penalty box before placing his effort into the back of the net.

Dennis Edwards made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, slotting home from inside the centre of the box, after collecting a cross from Alleyne.

The score increased 10 minutes later as Edwards recorded his second, directing his first time effort past the custodian, after receiving a through pass from Schultz.

Konata Manning then got into the scoring act in the 58th minute with Schultz fashioning his third assist compliments of a pass from the left side, allowing the veteran midfielder to blast his effort from the top of the box into the net.

The fifth goal for the hosts came in the 80th minute as Alleyne registered his second of the night. He received another assist from Schultz, his fourth of the match, who evaded the goalkeeper before lobbing a pass to the forward to finish into the empty net.

The visitors eventually recorded a consolation goal in the 82nd minute through Alden Lawrence. With the win, Fruta Conquerors move to 16 points while Victoria Kings remain in the third position on eight points.
