Chinese restaurant workers robbed in Goed Fortuin home invasion

A gang of bandits have left the workers of a Chinese restaurant traumatized after they invaded their home at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara early yesterday morning.

The attack occurred around 3am yesterday and lasted for several minutes, after which the bandits escaped with a cell phone, a laptop computer and a bottle of Hennessy.

Commander of ‘D’ Division Leslie James said that up to yesterday three persons had been arrested.

The Ocean Restaurant, which is located in front of the house where the attack occurred.

The property where the attack occurred houses the Ocean Restaurant, a house occupied by employees and another occupied by the owner of the restaurant, Su San and his family.

Stabroek News was told that the robbers, who were armed with cutlasses, crowbars and knives, gained entry into the house occupied by the employees by breaking the door. One employee, who did not want to be named, recalled hearing a noise. Upon investigating, he was confronted by the bandits, who allegedly tied him up and demanded valuables.

During the attack, the restaurateur, who was alerted, called the police, while he and his family secured themselves in their house.

The police arrived promptly but the bandits managed to escape by running through some bushes at the back of the premises.

When Stabroek News visited the scene yesterday, the business was open as per normal but the Chinese nationals refused to comment on the robbery.
