Minister Henry might just have been having a bad day

Dear Editor,

It is with dismay that I witness Guyanese being insensitive and unsupportive towards their own. They are quick to ridicule. I am referring in this instance to comments made by a prominent political activist who himself had been harassed by the previous administration. I have also noticed some harsh comments on Facebook.

I have previously stated that Minister Nicolette Henry made a faux pas and displayed some thoughtlessness in the execution of her duties, but her academic qualifications for the job as a Junior Minister are unquestionable. She has substantial qualifications in two professions and worked in a leading capacity for more than a decade or two, with a renowned, international US-based organization.

Additionally, she was recently appointed to head a leading regional body. This adds to Guyana’s role as a leader on the world’s stage. Guyana is in dire need of such recognition and clout.

In these harsh and challenging times to carve our niche and establish a strong economic foundation, we need to discard trivia and support each member of our small population, in every area of activity.

It is understandable that one would flay poor policies or the lack of strategies created to improve people’s well-being but it is inhumane to condemn someone who might just have been having a bad day.

Yours faithfully,

Conrad Barrow
