City council owed $3b, amnesty in effect

Dear Editor,

The Mayor and City Council wishes to inform all property owners that its City Treasurer’s Department will be opened from 8 am to 12:30 pm today. This is to facilitate all property owners who are desirous of setting their accounts with the Council.

Last Tuesday November 14th, 2017 the Council took a decision to grant an amnesty on interest owed in general rates to all property owners for one month – November 15 to December 15, 2017.

The Council is urging all property owners to take the opportunity to settle their outstanding accounts at the Georgetown Municipality.

At the moment, records at the City’s Treasury show that the Council has more than three billion dollars in outstanding amounts.

The Mayor and City Council needs every cent to sustain basic services even at current levels. It is hoped that property owners in general will assist Council in its effort to honour its responsibilities to local communities and the city.

Yours faithfully,

Debra Lewis
