Bush Lot Secondary reaches zone final

Two-time defending Region #5 champions Bush Lot Secondary, sealed their third consecutive berth to the zone final by crushing Rosignol Secondary 8-1 yesterday in the 7th Annual Digicel Schools Football Championships.

The contest was effectively over at the conclusion of the first half which saw the holders scoring four goals.

Shaqueel DeHarte started the rout in the 12th minute, slotting home from inside the left of the box, after pouncing on a right-side cross, following a bit of miscommunication between the defender and goalkeeper.

Dave Torrington made it 2-0 four minutes later directing his header from inside the right of the six-yard box into the left corner after collecting a left side corner-kick.

Torrington sealed his brace in the 39th minute, racing onto a pass inside the right of the box before lobbing his effort over the hands of the advancing goalkeeper down the centre of the net during a one on one situation.

Jamaul Benjamin completed the perfect half for the holders in the 44th minute, placing his effort into the centre of the net, after collecting a perfectly placed left side cross from DeHarte.

The challengers netted two minutes into the second half through a moment of brilliance from Nial Reynolds. Awarded a free kick outside the right of the area, Reynolds unleashed a curling free kick into the left-hand corner giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Rosignol got fortunate when Dequan Sears was issued with a red card in the 66th minute, after receiving a second yellow card for a rash challenge.

However, any hope of them mounting a comeback was extinguished as Bush Lot registered a further four goals despite their numerical handicap.

Torrington clinched his hat-trick in the 74th minute hammering a shot into the roof of the net from inside the right of the box after an initial shot from the left side was deflected into his path.

Jermin Perreira then etched his name on the scorer’s sheet three minutes later, rifling his attempt into the left side from the right of the 18-yard area. The result was sealed as Tony McPherson and Tyrone Miller scored in the 89th and 90th minute apiece.

Bush Lot Secondary will oppose Novar Secondary in the championship match on Friday at the same venue.
