Sanasie says Jaguars should be proud of performance

The Leon Johnson-led Guyana Jaguars cricket team returned home yesterday following their semifinal exit on Thursday taking a lot of positives from the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Super50 tournament.

Greeting them at the Eugene F. Correia Airport, Ogle was Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board, Anand Sanasie, who urged them to be proud of their performance while expressing his pleasure in seeing the camaraderie in the team.

Sanasie also told the players that if there was anything they would like to bring up they are free to do so as the aim was to better the team. He pointed out that the team did well having reached further than they did the previous two seasons.

While stating that most of what was done was according to plan, the team did lose key players at key moments of the tournament but the reserves did what they had to do. The GCB Secretary indicated that the ground feeling was a bit off and that is what needs to be worked on as he expressed his confidence in the team winning the title once again.

Johnson had similar views on the team’s performance after winning six of their eight group matches but was generally happy with what the team achieved.

The captain also ventured to say that it was not much that could have been done while pointing out that the batting was a bit of an issue.

Looking forward, though, he said he was optimistic of the guys playing a lot freer.

Coach Esaun Crandon said he was disappointed that the team did not reach the final but said that he will ensure that the team will head back to the drawing board and put in the hard work to hopefully capture the title next year.
