Orchids,beautiful orchids!

Arachnis and Dendrobium Orchids are in full bloom at present. I recently harvested 12 sprays of 2 varieties of Arachnis and 6 sprays of Dendrobiums and have another 12 sprays that will come into bloom next week.

Arachnis originated in Singapore and the Far East and have adapted well in Guyana. These orchids are a showpiece in any garden and also present very well as cut flowers.

The flower shape is in a spidery form as is seen in the Arachnis Maggie Oei (hookeriana x flos-aeris. These can be grown on a wallaba post or tree trunk in full sun.

Dendrobiums are garden treasure and come in several varieties. There are also hybrids and crosses. This orchid comes in small, medium and large flowers. It can be grown in pots, hanging baskets, or by strapping pseudobulbs to a tree trunk. When growing in pots use orchid bark, rocks and charcoal or orchid mix.

Until next week, Happy Gardening.
