M&CC hiring private contractors for post-Mash clean-up

The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) will be hiring private contractors to undertake the cleanup after the Mashramani celebrations, the council revealed yesterday.

Solid Waste Director Walter Narine related during a council press conference yesterday that the M&CC would be outsourcing the labour for the clean-up, which should begin around 4am on Saturday, February 24th.

Narine explained that while M&CC handled the clean-up on its own last year, the route was much shorter, and with the Council’s limited resources, it will be unable to handle the task.

He opined that it would not make sense to split the task between the Council and the private contractors. According to Narine, the Council is currently in the process of collecting proposals for the arrangement.
