Bandits raid R.Maye at Providence

A security guard of R. Maye Guyana International Inc was tied up and held at gunpoint with another employee after two men invaded the company’s premises yesterday morning.

Police yesterday said that between 9.20 am and 10 am at Lot 477 Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara the men who were armed with a gun and knife, carted off an undisclosed amount of cash from the company. The men also escaped with a Samsung Edge 7 cellular phone, $7000 cash belonging to the sales representative Ariana Rookmin and $2400 cash which was the property of Orin James the security guard.

Investigations disclosed that the men first confronted James, held him at gunpoint and put him to lie on the ground before using duct tape to tie his hands and feet. They then proceeded to Rookmin’s apartment which is located in the company’s compound and kicked down the door.

The woman upon realising what was happening, attempted to hide in the bathroom but was followed by the bandits who were unmasked. The men took her from the bathroom and held her at gunpoint. They then took her to another apartment in which the company vault is located and pressed her to open the vault.

Fearful for her life, Rookmin complied and handed over the cash from the vault. The men then tied her up and fled.

She however managed to free herself and James was also freed and immediately contacted the police.

Police say that they are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage from the building.
