A man yesterday morning succumbed to injuries he suffered on the Supply, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Public Road after a car drove over him.

Dead is Shayne Haynes, 33, a father of two and carpenter of Lot 12 Supply Public Road, EBD. The accident occurred sometime between 4 and 4.30 am.

Traffic Chief Leslie Isles last night told Stabroek News that Haynes succumbed while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

He explained that the accident occurred during the wee hours of the morning after the victim left a Barbeque and Lime in the village.

He noted that from surveillance footage, investigators said that the man had crossed the road where he relieved himself. Right after that he walked back onto the road and lay in the middle of it.

While on the middle of the road, Isles said, two trucks passed Haynes and sometime later,  a silver-coloured motor car drove over him.

His stepfather Robert Chan last night related a similar story to this newspaper. He noted that from the surveillance video reviewed, they were able to identify the colour of the cars but were unable to detect the registration number.

He explained that they were asleep and were awakened by an unusual sound. He said when they checked they saw Haynes lying motionless on the road.

He was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police are still to locate the driver and the car involved in the accident.
