When the PNC closed one door to Hinds and Lewis ten new ones opened

Dear Editor,

If one reflects on the statement from the then Leader of the then Opposition, Mr Robert Corbin, in 2004, it clearly exposed the inconsistency in principles in the PNC leadership.  Mr Corbin’s statement in 2004 was: “Regrettably, we have witnessed the continued obnoxious abuse and misuse of the State media NCN and the Guyana Chronicle for PPP Party Propaganda…”

Fast forward to 2018 and who is continuing the obnoxious abuse and misuse of the State media, but this time for PNC party propaganda?

Then in the 2013 Budget debates, the then Leader of the Opposition, Mr David Granger, once in a statement attributed to him again exposed the inconsistency in principles in the PNC leadership.  Mr Granger’s statement in 2013 was: “Our cuts are driven by principles and the principle is that state funds must serve the interest of the people of this country and not one set of people and not one political party or one particular group”.

Fast forward to 2018 and who is using the State media to serve the interest of one set of people and one particular group – the Granger faction?

The problem with these septuagenarian politicians is that they are just being plain disingenuous, deceptive and hypocritical. These actions have a genesis in history.  All that matters to these PNC leaders is that their urban-based elite must rule and the working class must be subservient.  Unfortunately, with the advent of the Internet, more youths are becoming aware of their hypocritical actions and deception.

What was done to Lincoln Lewis and David Hinds was wrong.  But nature works in powerful ways.  When the PNC closed one door on these columnists, 10 new ones open.  I want to congratulate these two gentlemen for their new roles in the private media.  As an example of the stupidity of those in the PNC, they forced out Dr Hinds from the Guyana Chronicle with fewer than 2,000 papers in circulation.  The very next day Mr Glen Lall opened the door for him to write for the Sunday Kaieteur, which has a circulation of more than 40,000 newspapers.  In Guyana’s context that can transcend to a readership of over 150,000 persons. Which political joker came up with such a plan?

Yours faithfully,

Sasenarine Singh
