Remanded prisoner dies after beating at Lusignan Holding Bay

A prisoner who was on remand at Lusignan died today following a beating endured yesterday in the holding bay of the facility.

According to the Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels,  Samuel Little died today while a patient at the GPHC. In a statement, Samuels said that Little was assaulted yesterday while housed at the Holding Bay, Lusignan. As a result of the injuries sustained, he was referred from the prison infirmary to the GPHC. The offence which was reported to the police is now an active murder investigation, the statement said. The suspect has been identified and is assisting with investigations. The weapon, a piece of wood is in the possession of officers.

There have been several cases in recent years of fatal prison violence.
