Former CJ Ian Chang passes away

President David  Granger today expressed condolences at the passing of former Chief Justice Ian Justice Chang SC.

Justice Chang who last served as acting Chief Justice  from 2000 to 2015, died today. President Granger extended heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, relatives and friends.

The Supreme Court today issued the following the statement:

The Judiciary and Magistracy of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana are deeply saddenedto learn of the passing of former Chief Justice Ian Chang C.C.H., S.C., a true son of the soil who died at a city hospital on November 16, 2019.

Justice Chang served as one of the nation’s Chief Justices from 2006until his retirement in 2016. He also served with distinction in the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions for over 20 years. Justice Chang served his profession and fellow Guyanese with great honor and integrity. His was a life of service to the nation. He was respected for his phenomenal legal intellect and was a fountain of legal knowledge which he readily shared. Justice Chang’s death will undoubtedly leave a void in the justice system and with colleagues within the legal fraternity whose lives he impacted.

The Judiciary and Magistracy express condolences to the family and friends of Justice Ian Chang. May his soul rest in peace.
