New Year’s J’ouvert bandit robbed five persons

An East La Penitence man was yesterday released on bail after denying charges that he robbed five persons at a “J’ouvert” celebration at D’Urban Park on New Year’s Day.

Collin Cooper, 37, of East La Penitence pleaded not guilty to five counts of robbery when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. It is alleged that on January 1st, 2019, he robbed five persons at the “J’ouvert” of over $400,000 in cash, jewellery and other items, and before, during or after the robbery, he used personal violence against them.

The police prosecutor had no objection to bail being granted to Cooper. The magistrate placed him on $100,000 bail on the condition that he report to the East La Penitence police station every Monday. The father of one was told to return to court on February 8th, 2019 for his next hearing.
