(Jamaica Gleaner) Defence attorneys are this morning expected to carry out their cross-examination of the Crown’s second witness, who is said to be a former member of the Uchence Wilson Gang which allegedly carried out several robberies and other crimes across at least seven parishes.
Yesterday, as the gang’s activities continue to be spotlighted, murder and rape were added to the raft of major crimes allegedly committed by the Uchence Wilson Gang as more details come to light.
The witness gave testimony outlining instances where gang members committed murder and even rape.
The ex-gang member said that he was told that on a robbery of a house in Troja, St Catherine, his cronies shot and killed a man who had put up resistance.
ENTERED THROUGH A WINDOW
The witness was testifying in the trial for Wilson and his 23 alleged gang members at the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston.
He said that he was told that the gangsters entered the house through a window and found the man and a woman inside the house.
The former gang member, who was testifying via video link, said a confrontation developed when the man refused to give up the key to his Suzuki Grand Vitara and he was subsequently shot.
The witness said he does not know who shot the man.
He said that accused Donovan Cole, also known as ‘Big Head Man’, had made a request for a vehicle of a similar model.
On another occasion, the witness said that after the gangsters conducted the robbery at a residence in Glengoffe, St Catherine, they raped a female who was at the house.
The former gang member said that he was told that prior to this, they entered the house to find the man they had intended to rob having a shower.
According to him, gang members accosted the man, but he slipped out of their grasp and made his escape through a back door while still naked.
He said the gang members then demanded money from the man’s wife.
Successfully acquiring what they wanted, he added that he was told that gang members found a girl in a room and raped her.
He said he does not know who carried out the act.
Money, jewellery, iPhones and shoes were among the items stolen from the house, the witness said.
He said the robbery victim was chosen because he drove a BMW X5 and was hosting a party in the community.
Later in the proceedings, the witness was shown photographs of locations he is said to have carried gang members to carry out robberies.
Wilson and his 23 alleged cronies are on trial for breaches of the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act 2014, commonly referred to as the anti-gang legislation, for crimes allegedly committed between 2015 and 2017.
