Trinidad: Cops find ATM skimming device in ATM outlet

(Trinidad Guardian) Sup­ple­men­tal Po­lice un­cov­ered and re­moved a fake ATM pan­elling de­vice that was hid­ing a cell­phone used to cap­ture im­ages of cus­tomers’ pin num­bers at Sco­tia­bank’s Freeport ATM unit.

In a 58-sec­ond long video shared on so­cial me­dia late on Thurs­day night, an of­fi­cer can be seen reach­ing in­to the al­cove of the ATM and re­mov­ing the fake pan­elling.

As he re­moves it, a Sam­sung cell­phone is seen at­tached to the in­side of the fake pan­el and takes a pho­to of the screen.

The of­fi­cer, who was not iden­ti­fied, said, “This is the de­vice lo­cat­ed at Freeport ATM. Bra­vo One was con­tact­ed, in­struc­tions were giv­en to take pho­tos and to take out the de­vice.”

He con­tin­ued to ex­plain that the scam­mers had used the pan­elling to mim­ic the ATM’s vent in or­der to car­ry out their scam.

“As you can see, they du­pli­cat­ed the vent of the ATM and this is what the orig­i­nal ATM sup­posed to look like,” he said as he ges­tured to the ma­chine.
