What are the rules Mashramani Day vendors will have to follow on music level and time limit?

Dear Editor,

The Mayor & City Council has come around and cancelled out the numbers painted on the road in front of the bridges and gateways of our Queenstown residences thus correcting what was a mistake to try and sell these as vending spots.

The residents of Kitty and Queenstown would like to engage the authorities’ attention further with regard to our peace, quiet and security on Republic Day. We endure the illegal noise pollution that is Mashramani all day and would like to have some assurance that the noise made by the vendors’ ear-splitting music will be limited to a reasonable hour.

The last float passes down the road well before 6pm so it would not be unreasonable to expect that the music should also be turned off at this hour. We would like the authorities to make public the rules that the vendors will have to follow especially regarding the allowed music level and time limit.

I have suggested before that if the authorities want the Mashramani bacchanal to go on until all hours of the night that the route should be moved to the city’s commercial district. This is not an unreasonable request.

Yours faithfully,

Ryhaan Shah
