The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) released its national unity song “Let Harmony Come In” at a recent launching at the Pegasus Hotel. The song is among a few of the things put together by the ERC for the Harmony Campaign.

“Let Harmony Come In” comes at a time when persons are being indifferent towards each other because of race, creed, culture and/or politics. The song encourages people to throw away such hate and intolerance and let harmony prevail.

The ERC has always made it its objective to promote harmony and good relations in society and in keeping with this, collaborated with was Kross Kolor Records as part of this venture.

“I was contacted in December and asked to compose a song that reflected peace and harmony,” CEO of Kross Kolor Records Burchmore Simon said. The producer said ERC Commissioner Neaz Subhan outlined his thoughts during a conversation and he incorporated them into the song. He then handpicked two of Guyana’s artistes, T’shanna Cort and Mark Ferdinand to sing it.

Contacted, Cort said, “For many years we have been striving for harmony and the way things are going, it seems like it’s getting worse so to know that I was invited to be part of this project is humbling. I’m happy to have been given such an opportunity.”

Ferdinand also shared the same sentiments. “I’m really privileged to be part of the song and I know that’s what we need at this time in our country – love and harmony,” he added.

In addition to the song, the ERC will use public service announcements, posters, billboards, a play and a social media campaign to send its message of harmony.

The launching was witnessed by more than 200 attendees. The unveiling of the public initiative was the first part of the ERC’s harmony campaign for this year.

The ERC will also stage its play I Am Us which examines some societal factors that impact social cohesion. The play will feature renowned Guyanese actors which will debut at a gala on March 9 and continue on March 10 at the National Cultural Centre. Both performances will commence at 7 pm. Admission will be free.
