Former West Indies batting coach, Toby Radford, has taken a jab at the administration of West Indies Cricket over the years as he believes investment has led to teams going ahead of West Indies.

Radford compared the current West Indies unit over the last decade to that of the team that dominated the world and reckoned talent does not make it in this era.  During Tuesday’s edition of the Mason and Guest radio programme he reasoned, “In the heyday when West Indies were pure talent the other countries were not investing, they’ve all invested and have all gone ahead of us not on ability but on investment and I would love to see some investment to take us forward.”

The Englishman pointed out that this venture includes, “Investment in facilities,  investment in good pitches, investment in equipment so that the players who are going to be future West Indies stars have everything they need to become those West Indies stars.”

The former Glamorgan and Middlesex head coach also highlighted that there needs to be a roadmap and focus being in place towards the next decade or two where the legacy of West Indies Cricket is at the forefront.

On the other hand, Radford posited that preparation is also key towards better results for the Caribbean side.

“I think [we should be] trying to get the optimum results out of the current crop of players from whatever tour they’re on, trying to get the best results and that comes down to preparation, individual preparation, team preparation and making sure we are doing everything we can to win the series.” West Indies recently toured England and lost that series 2-1 before losing to New Zealand 2-0 in the Tests. The Caribbean unit is currently ranked eighth in Tests, ninth in One Day Internationals and 10th in T20 Internationals.
