Cricket West Indies’ Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams is seeing the positives amidst the gloomy situation after several key players opted not to tour Bangladesh. Adams believes that the silver lining in the skies is the opportunity for the young players selected to jumpstart fruitful careers.

During a zoom conference yesterday following the naming of the squads, Adams said, “In terms of this tour coming off [and] the circumstances with players not choosing to go is something I view as an opportunity first of all.”

He added, “I think the subcontinent has what I will call individual challenges over the years that a lot of West Indian players have actually almost made a name for themselves in touring subcontinent conditions pretty early and I look at a group of the players who will not have the experience obviously as some of them who have pulled out but I don’t think they are short on talent.”

The former West Indies captain contended that with the management team, led by head coach Phil Simmons, the environment can facilitate the development of players rapidly.

“I have every confidence that the management team we have put around them in Phil Simmons and his support staff that we have every chance of seeing not only good performances but the start of some very long and fruitful careers so this is the approach I personally take towards a tour like this,” he said.

Adams admitted that West Indies have not done well on international tours but with this tour comes another chance to improve.

West Indies lost 0-2 back in 2018 when they last toured the Asian country where they failed to pass 250 in each of their four innings.

He noted, “Our touring stats as an international team definitely has to improve and this is another chance to get to see a younger group tour in different conditions that we have in the Caribbean and I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a sense of excitement looking on what I consider to be a very talented group of younger players under a really strong management team and… we expect good performances.”
