Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday at about 8 pm  on Dora Public Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, involving a motor lorry driven by a 34 year-old male of Yarrowkabra Village, Soesdyke/Linden Highway which crashed into a stationary motor pick-up #GRR 4627, resulting in the death of Murvey Andrew Madhoo, age 60 years of Independence Boulevard La Penitence, Georgetown.

Enquiries, the police say, disclosed that motor pick-up 4627 was stationary on the western side of the said road transferring goods to another pick-up when the motor lorry which was proceeding north along the road at a fast rate of speed lost control and the right side front of the lorry collided with the right side front of the pick-up which then collided with Madhoo and Sherwin Rhodius both of whom were standing between the two motor pick-ups.

As a result of the collision the two men suffered serious injuries about their bodies. They were then picked up by public-spirited citizens. Madhoo was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.  Rhodius was taken to the Linden Public Hospital where he was examined by a doctor and admitted as a patient – his condition is regarded as critical.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motor lorry who was found to be below the prescribed limits.

The body of the deceased is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a post- mortem examination.
