Kameel Calistro, a mother of two of Swan, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway was fatally stabbed during the wee hours of yesterday after being caught in the middle of a confrontation between two others.

Police have since arrested Kristopher Stoll, 20, the suspect also of Swan. The stabbing occurred at around 3:45 am yesterday.

Police in a statement said that the suspect was highly intoxicated at the time of stabbing and was involved in an argument over which girl could dance better.

The police said that preliminary investigations disclosed that Kameel was at a birth night at her Aunt Shavon Calistro’s Lot 11 Swan residence and was drinking and dancing to music being played from a vehicle that was parked in front of the unfenced yard. At the time, the police say, there were several others present drinking and dancing. Stoll then had an argument about which girl could dance better.

The argument was between Stoll and relatives of the victim which led him to pull out a knife from the right side of his waist and allegedly attempt to stab 29-year-old Adolph Joseph of 46 Swan who is a cousin of the victim. The knife made a minor laceration to the lower left side of Joseph’s abdomen.

Calistro intervened, Police said, and Stoll allegedly stabbed her in the left side of her abdomen. She then collapsed and was rushed to the GPHC where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her sister Ruth Calistro yesterday said that Kameel was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

She said that Stoll had turned his attention towards another female, who was with her sister and had allegedly attempted to stab her. However, she managed to get out of his way and before Kameel could have moved away she was stabbed in the left side of her abdomen.

Ruth told this newspaper that her sister was returning from a party in Kuru Kururu to pick up her children when she came into contact with Stoll and the group of persons who were arguing.

She stated that a female who had accompanied her sister told the suspect to go home and sleep after overhearing their argument.

“He tried to stab my cousin but then another girl who was with my sister turn and tell he go home and sleep and he turn around to her and said ‘oh you talking up too’ and tried to stab her with the knife. But she jumped out of the way and he end up stabbing my sister. Before they could have tell her, Kristopher get a knife he done stab her,” the grieving sister said.

The sister added that after Kameel was stabbed she rushed towards them and called out to her brother and urged that they take her for medical attention.

“After she get stabbed she run toward us and call for my brother. We saw what happened but we didn’t know she got stabbed so badly. So she come to the shop and call for my brother and say call a taxi and carry me to the hospital, Kristopher bore me,” the sister said.

It was at this point, she said her sister collapsed in front of their shop and was picked up and taken to the hospital.

Ruth added that they are still trying to come to grips with reality as the community is close-knitted and most people are related to each other.

“Kameel and Kristopher don’t have any misunderstanding. We know everyone in this community so it is very surprising this happen. We still cannot believe it,” the sister related.

Stoll was arrested and a knife was found in his possession.
