Former Ocean View convention centre to be quarantine facility

The Ministry of Health is seeking bids for the rehabilitation and conversion of what used to be the Ocean View Convention Centre into a quarantine and treatment facility.

In an advertisement in today’s Stabroek News, the ministry said that a pre-bid conference will be held at the facility at Liliendaal on July 6 at 2pm. While it wasn’t specified in the advertisement, it is likely that the facility will be utilised for the quarantining and treating of COVID-19 patients.

The Convention Centre, which fell into disuse, was part of the Ocean View Hotel complex. The hotel was transformed under the APNU+AFC government into the Infectious Diseases Hospital. It is now the main treatment facility for COVID-19 patients.

Bids have to be submitted by July 13.
