(Trinidad Guardian) After carefully combing through thick crude, the decomposing body of the fourth diver Rishi Nagessar was finally recovered during the wee hours of Thursday morning.
In a statement, Paria Fuel Trading announced that the body was recovered at 12:36 am.
The statement read: “It is with a deep sense of sadness that we confirm that the body of Rishi Nagassar, the fourth diver, was recovered. Paria has advised the family and extended condolences on behalf of management and staff.”
The company said it has offered counselling support to the families and loved ones of the four divers.
On Tuesday, one day after the three other divers were found, Paria began searching the line using robotic cameras.
The recovery operation was described as complex.
Paria said it had to be conducted with extreme care given the fact that the bodies were lodged behind diving equipment in a 30-inch pipeline, 60 feet below the surface and more than 100 feet along the seabed.
Paria said, “The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has announced plans to initiate an independent investigation to determine the root cause of the incident and to make appropriate recommendations. This has been a profound loss for the families, their employer LMCS, and the entire country. Paria thanks the emergency response team, the Paria Incident Management Team (IMT) and the external agencies who provided unwavering support during this difficult period.”
On February 25th at 2:30 pm, Nagessar, Christopher Boodram, Fyzal Kurban, Yusuff Henry and Kazim Ali Junior were conducting underwater maintenance on the pipeline located at No 36 Sealine riser on Berth No 6 at the Paria facility when tragedy struck.
The men were in an LMCS hyperbaric chamber when the incident occurred. Only Boodram made it out alive. He is currently warded at the hospital.
