Actor Henry Rodney passes away at 63

Actor Henry Rodney has died after being hospitalised in the United States according to his family.

In a statement, this afternoon, the Rodney family said that the 63-year-old actor died at around 1:14 pm in Brooklyn, New York.

“We thank you for your continued prayers, support and well wishes. Your understanding and space is truly appreciated at this time as we process this loss as a family unit and will update you as time passes. We covet your prayers in this time,” the family said.

Rodney had been battling a mystery illness since 2015 and in 2016 travelled to the United States for specialised tests. He had made a recovery but prior to his death was once again hospitalised.

Rodney had been putting smiles on the faces of Guyanese for the past four decades, and is known for his performances in shows such as, “Nothing to Laugh About,” “Agree to Disagree” and the “Link Show.” He gain a devoted following for his role as Franklyn in Agree to Disagree – which was one of Guyana’s biggest television sitcoms.

He has also been on the international scene. In 2004, he was cast in the film Guiana 1838, along with Indian actor Kumar Gaurav. The film by Rohit Jagessar was based on the abolition of slavery in the British Caribbean. He had starred in over 100 plays.
