Shasha Designs presents Guyana’s first gala and runway show,‘Moonlight Stories’, at  Pegasus Corporate Suites on May 21. The grand event features a fusion of fashion, art and culture and is sure to be a treat for Guyanese.

Attendees will be captivated by an explosion of talent featuring Shasha Designs, Olympia Da Brand, Randy Madray, House of Pearson, Bucked Bead, Francois Designs, Maxi K Williams, Wanza’s Designs, Seduction by CIM, GhodessWear, Everything Custom by Ashanti, Rio De Roberto and Miracle Hand Designs.

The night of fashion begins with a red carpet between 7 pm and 8 pm where those in attendance will have an opportunity to be in the spotlight with all cameras on them while being interviewed by fashionista Ashaka King before the show kicks off.

Media personality Wanita Huburn will host the event.

The brainchild of designer Keisha Edwards, the occasion has been in the making for years and with her team of professionals: Renee Chester, Keith Allicock, Cassie Cabose, Randy Fredericks, Maxi Williams and Luthers Decorators International, Keisha is sure the event will be nothing short of majestic.

The designer shared that sometime ago she learnt from a friend that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports was giving grants to persons looking to enhance culture and she wasted no time in securing a grant for Shasha Designs. The grant, she said, did not cover all it takes to pull off such a night but nonetheless she is grateful to the ministry for the opportunity.

She has received sponsorship for the event from Mohamed’s Enterprise and Supreme Laundromat, but noted that there is need for additional support and she is inviting more sponsors to get involved.

“Moonlight Stories is very special to me. I have fond memories of growing up in Guyana and … of folk stories being told to me especially on moonlight nights. I feel that is something I have in common with many other Guyanese,” she said. “This culture seems to be dying. Fashion is also something that is not appreciated much in Guyana. I thought it’d be a great opportunity to fuse the two.

“The theme is Guyanese Folklore and I want that to be the concept that is reflected when the audience sees the fashion displayed before them. I want to see Guyanese pride and also boost tourism through such an event. I think this is a great opportunity for people to learn more of Guyana’s fashion and culture depicted through artists, designers, photographers, videographers, writers and the likes of those within the arts…”

Moonlight Stories, the designer said, is expected to be an annual event hosted in May.

Keisha shared that much has been done so far to pull this off and much is still to be done but she is enjoying all of it. She said that everything is coming together nicely and it is an interesting process. She still has to sit down with the makeup artist and describe the mood she wants. She also has to meet the set designer to ensure that the runway and lights are up to standard, as well as with the DJ to ensure that the runway music is figured down to a tee. She will keep checking with designers to ensure that they are able to meet the deadline.

“So yes, it’s a lot of work”, Keisha said but added that she plans to get it done so that her audience can have an unforgettable experience.

Aside from her talent and skill, Keisha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion which she received from the Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design in 2020.
