According to information gathered by Sunday Stabroek, the boat started to take in water around the Leguan area, where it sank.

After boat sank, some passengers held on to nearby mangroves.

According to Monitor for the Parika/Supenaam speedboat service, Sweeshankar (only name given), the passengers were eventually rescued by another boat that  was sent from Parika and they were safely transported to Supenaam.

When the passengers arrived, they were not just wet they were still shaken by their ordeal. “We thought that we would drown. The boat was just going down. It’s good thing for the [mangrove] bushes,” Anita Persaud, a passenger, related.

Other passengers said they were thankful for their lives and were glad nothing worse happened.

Among the passengers was a troupe of comedians that was scheduled to perform at a resort at Capoey, Region Two. Among them were Chris Gopaul, Michael Ignatius, and Lyndon ‘Jumbie’ Jones, who all later assured their fans that the show would go on.
