Former pork knocker Aubrey Bobb is now awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to the 2017 murder of city businessman Godfrey Scipio, popularly known as “Saga,” who was shot during a robbery.

At his arraignment for the capital offence at the High Court in Demerara this morning, Bobb admitted to the charge which stated that he murdered Scipio in the course or furtherance of a robbery on October 12th, 2017 at Stanley Place, Kitty, Georgetown.

Justice Jo-Ann Barlow has deferred sentencing to September 26th to first hear from probation and other social impact reports.

Bobb is being represented by defence attorney Teriq Mohammed, while the indictment was presented by state counsel Latifah Elliot.

Two policemen, including a former ‘Best Cop’ awardee, had also been charged with murdering the businessman who was gunned down outside of a city hotel.

Detective Corporal Derwin Eastman, who was once named ‘Best Cop,’ is currently awaiting trial. He was committed to stand trial last year after a Magistrate found that there was a prima facie case against him.

His former co-accused Constable Jamenson Williams was, however, discharged following the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry (PI) at which the Magistrate ruled that there was insufficient evidence.

The ruling was that the Prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Williams; which led to him being discharged.

Williams’ attorneys Dexter Todd and Dexter Smartt— had raised in their client’s defence, that he had an alibi for the time of the murder.

He was freed in July of last year.

Scipio, formerly of Lot ‘ZZ’ 22 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, was shot once in his abdomen during a robbery.

He subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Woodlands Hospital.

The police had said that the shooter discharged a round, hitting Scipio in the abdomen, before relieving him of his jewellery; after which he escaped on foot.
