Ann’s Grove man kills son, chops and burns wife before killing self

An Ann’s Grove woman is now hospitalised after a gruesome attack by her husband, who , who chopped their son to death before attacking her and ending his own life.

Sharon Scott, 53, of Lot 24 Middle Walk, Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, is said to be in stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital following the attack, which took place in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Her son, Seon Scott, 21, was found dead with a wound to the left side of his neck in their house, where the perpetrator, Leon Bobb, 57, was also found dead.

The Guyana Police Force said Seon was reportedly chopped by Bobb and subsequently died.

Sharon was also chopped about her body by Bobb, who drenched her in gasoline and lit her on fire. The man was subsequently found lying on a blood-soaked bed in a room, with a large wound to his abdomen with his intestine protruding.

A blood stained knife and cutlass were found under the bed on which Leon Bobb was on.

The police said the couple had an ongoing domestic dispute in which Bobb accused the woman of having extra marital affairs. He had reportedly physically assaulted the woman on several occasions and her son, Seon, would intervene.

In a statement, the police said at about 02:30 hours, noise was heard coming from the residence after which Sharon was seen running out of the house with blood on her clothing. The deceased suspect, reportedly chased behind her with a cutlass in his hand telling her to come back in the house.

The woman then raised an alarm, shouting that “Leon chopped Seon.”

The woman who managed to escape, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by her daughter. The woman was admitted a patient suffering from a wound to her left side neck, right hand and burn marks about her body. Her condition is listed as stable in the Burn Unit suffering from first degree burn. 

Police ranks who responded to the scene found Seon Bobb lying motionless on a mattress. A large wound was seen to his left side neck.
