A 19-year-old student of the Government Technical Institute (GTI) died this afternoon, days after he was attacked and brutally beaten by a group of men in the vicinity of the Route 45 bus park.
Dead is Samuel Grannum of Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
Reports are that the incident occurred around 3pm on Friday while Grannum was liming at the bus park with a friend.
He succumbed to his injuries around 1.35 pm today at a city private hospital.
The dead teen’s aunt, Marcia Grannum told Stabroek News that the family is not aware of what might have led to the incident.
She said she understand that her nephew might have been a victim of mistaken identity.
According to Marcia, information revealed that there was a fight involving a student of GTI sometime ago. It is believed that the suspects mistook Samuel for the person who was involved in that fight and launched the attack.
Marcia said enquiries indicate that her nephew was never involved in any fights at the institution neither did he have any issue which might have led to the incident.
The family is demanding justice. They said they are not satisfied with the pace of the police investigation.
There has been no word as yet from the Guyana Police Force on the attack.
