Dequan King who was wanted in Guyana for the August, 2021 $58 million robbery at Wallison Enterprise in Kitty, was nabbed yesterday in Suriname.

According to Waterkant, a Suriname media outlet, King was arrested last evening by the Regional Assistance Team Paramaribo (RBTP) in collaboration with the National Security Directorate (DNV).

In August, 2021, three men entered Wallison Enterprise, located at Lot 23 Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown, on the pretext of selling gold.

Once inside the building, they held two employees, a 45-year-old goldsmith and a 20-year-old female cashier, at gunpoint and ordered them to the safe which contained the valuables.

Following the heist, police had recovered the suspected getaway car. It was found abandoned in front of a suspect’s home at Cummings Lodge, ECD.

King, a taxi driver, of Lot 20 ‘D’ Field, Sophia is accused of being the driver of the getaway car in the robbery.

In 2021, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum had told Stabroek News that King had fled to the interior and efforts were being made to locate him.

According to Blanhum, persons in the Cummings Lodge area had reported to the police that prior to leaving, King brought home a canter loaded with various household items, which he bought a day after the robbery.

The items were seized by the police, who had suspected that they were purchased with some of the loot.

However, according to the Waterkant, King last week was allegedly involved in a case in French Guiana, “in which a man was shot dead”. After the incident, the suspect fled to Suriname.”

The publication further noted, that “the suspect will be deported from the country in accordance with the applicable procedures and extradited to the neighboring country.”
