Investigators have made a breakthrough in the December 26th  murder of Kaneville businessman, Shimron Adams and the prime suspect has since been arrested.

This afternoon, the second suspect was arrested near the Berbice Bridge. It is believed that he was on his way to Suriname.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News that the suspected murder weapon was also recovered.

He said investigators were able to make a headway in the case after they obtained a detailed statement from the female who was in the company of Adams at the time of his murder.

Information reaching this newspaper revealed that the female and the prime suspect shared a relationship for several years.

Several days before the murder, this newspaper was told that the prime suspect became annoyed and threatened to rob Adams after he saw messages and photographs on the female’s phone shared between her and Adams.

And, although the female pleaded with the prime suspect not to do it, Stabroek News was told that he insisted and took possession of her phone.

Reports are that on the morning of the killing, the female asked the prime suspect for the phone and while he initially refused, he eventually gave it to her.

Investigators were further told that on the night of the murder, while the female was with Adams at his business place, the prime suspect and one of his friends entered through a shutter. They were armed with guns and ordered the female and Adams to lie on the ground. They complied after which the prime suspect and his accomplice proceed to rob Adams of his gold jewellery.

Adams then got up and held onto a bag he was carrying during which a scuffle ensued between him and the prime suspect.

The prime suspect discharged a round which stuck Adams.

The prime suspect then relieved Adams of his bag and took away the female’s phone before he fled the scene.
