Christ Church Secondary destroyed by fire

Days after a small fire was put out in its lab, the Christ Church Secondary School on Camp and Middle streets was today destroyed by a major fire which erupted this afternoon.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Ministry of Education said that the school catered to 502 learners, 39 teachers and nine ancillary staff. The fire started around 5.15 pm.

Minister of Education Priya Manickchand is at the scene along with Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir and Senior Education Officers including the Chief Education Officer,  Saddam Hussain and Assistant Chief Education Officer (Secondary),  Tiffany Harvey.

A number of major schools and other public buildings have been destroyed by fire in recent months under suspicious circumstances.
