The police  today said that  two  cops were arrested at a roadblock on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) over the possession of ammunition and suspected marijuana and cocaine.

At about 2.30 am today, a party of Police ranks from Regional Division 4 ‘C’ were conducting a roadblock on the Cove and John Public Road, ECD, when a silver grey Premio motorcar  #PAB 7863 with three male occupants was stopped.

The police said that the driver of the vehicle was identified as a 32-year-old mason of Vigilance while the two other occupants were identified as Police Constable Albert Beresford, stationed at the Clonbrook Police Outpost, and Police Constable Julius Cambridge, stationed at the Cane Grove Police Station, respectively.

The police say that the men were observed acting suspiciously  and a search was conducted on their person and motorcar in their presence. During the search, a grey and black travelling bag was found. Inside the bag were two parcels and a container with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana.

Another container inside the bag contained several parcels of rock-like substances that appeared to be cocaine. The items were shown to the suspects, who were told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Cove and John Police Station along with the suspected cannabis and cocaine.

The suspected cocaine was weighed and amounted to 170 grammes. The suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 9430 grammes.

A further search was carried out in the car and two .38, two .40 and eleven 9mm rounds of ammunition were found. All the exhibits are lodged at the Cove and John Police station, the police said.

The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
