Ministry gearing up for key Lymphatic Filariasis survey

Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony yesterday met with a team from the United States to discuss the Implementation of the IDA Impact Survey (IIS) to validate the elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) as a public health problem in Guyana.

A release from the ministry said that the team facilitated the Lymphatic Filariasis IDA Impact Survey training held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel where 118 participants benefited.

The goal of the survey is to determine whether the prevalence of LF in the endemic regions have been lowered sufficiently to levels where LF transmission is no longer sustainable.

Present at this meeting were, Dr Reza Niles-Robin, Director (ag) of the Vector Control Services; TJ Muehleman CEO of Standard Co; Lee Hundley, Associate Director of Neglected Tropical Disease Support Center at the Task Force for Global Health; Dr Annastacia Sampson, National Coordinator of the Neglected Infectious Disease Programme; Ronaldo Scholte, Technical Officer for Regional Neglected Infectious Diseases at the Pan American Health Organisation (WHO) Washington and Dr Rainer Escalada, PAHO CDE Advisor.
