Fisherman stabbed to death, brother held

Police are investigating the murder of  Henry Sam Bowin, a 20-year-old fisherman from Smith Creek, North West District, which occurred today at about 8.45 am at 1 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. The suspect is an 18-year-old from the same Mon Repos address.

Enquiries disclosed that Bowin and the suspect are brothers. At about 9 am today, the suspect went over to a neighbour’s yard with a knife in his hand, sat in front of the verandah and said that he had just “bore up” his brother. He had what appeared to be blood on his chest.

The Police were called in and ranks found the suspect sitting in the neighbour’s yard with what appeared to be blood on his skin.

Ranks took possession of the knife, which was lodged. The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Beterverwagting Police Station, where he was placed in custody. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Bowin’s body was examined, and what appeared to be a wound was seen on his throat. There was also a wound on his right hand.

The body was later escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem. The scene was processed and photographed. Investigations continue.
