Over the past week, 1,738 cases were made across all Regional Police Divisions in Guyana.

Of this amount, the police said that four hundred and sixty-eight were charged, two hundred and sixty-four summons prepared, and one thousand and six tickets issued. Driving under the influence matters were so done with court dates provided to those tested and found to be above the prescribed limit, the police said in a release.

Traffic Chief, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh said that, in an effort to complement the enforcement exercises, all Regional Divisions conducted daily empowerment lectures with students at schools, drivers along each route of travel, and even patrons at bars or restaurants to ensure the critical safety tips have a far reaching effect.

The police have come under severe pressure to rein in the number of accidents and deaths on the road amid a major surge.
