Led by Prime Minister Mark Phillips,  Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and Cabinet colleagues including Minister of Governance and Parliamentary Affairs, Gail Teixeira participated in discussions today with representatives of the Guyana Teachers’ Union and other trade unions in Guyana at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

This is according to a brief post on the Ministry of Education’s website.

The meeting follows accusations against the government that is bypassing collective bargaining via direct discussions with teachers and by not responding to concerns raised by the Guyana Public Service Union.

Minister of Finance Dr Ashni Singh and Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton were also part of the government team. Veteran trade unionist Lincoln Lewis was among those in attendance.
