A man who was reported missing was yesterday afternoon found buried in a shallow grave in the backlands of Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne.

Ghowcharran Persaud, 37, of Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne reportedly went on a fishing trip with two friends identified as ‘Ameer’ and ‘Bharrat’ on Thursday last. Relatives yesterday said that the men were expected to return on Saturday.

However, Persaud’s brother, Pravesh Persaud yesterday relayed that Thursday morning his brother visited his house and told him that he would be heading to the area to fish. “Any where he a go he does come tell me who he a go with and he say them a go catch fish and he seh he a go with Ameer. He pack up he bag and Ameer come and collect he.”

However, according to the brother on Saturday morning ‘Ameer’ visited his home and claimed that Bharrat shot Persaud. The brother said, “Ameer say that Bharrat fire five shot pon them and when me brother fall down he (Bharrat) run fa shoot Ameer and Ameer run.”

Ameer has reportedly claimed that he rode his motorcycle with a punctured wheel to escape.

The brother expressed his frustration at ranks at the Springlands Police Station, explaining that on Saturday, Ameer after informing him about what had transpired, proceeded to the station where he made a statement about the incident “and them police send he home and then me had to call them (police) and ask that what really happening.”

It wasn’t until Sunday that a search party which included police ranks ventured to the location where they discovered what appeared to be blood on the ground.

The family did not give up and continued their search resulting in them yesterday returning to the location where Persaud’s body was eventually discovered buried in a shallow grave near a tree – a short distance from where what appeared to be blood was found. “Me mother tell me how me cousin walk, walk and then walk pon am and feel and them find the grave under leaves next to one big tree.”

The brother yesterday called for justice as he stated, “Me buddy a one good bai, if he been bad me would a talk, but he good… He na short a nothing, everything abbay a buy, watch abbay get abbay own boat and engine and then them kill he like this and bury am.”

Relatives yesterday said that both Bharrat and Ameer were in “police hands.”

The police in a statement last night said that Persaud was found in a  canal under debris.

The body was examined for marks of violence  and  several wounds were seen.

The body was identified by the deceased’s cousin Keerat Kassim by the tattoo on his left hand and  face.

Two suspects are in custody, assisting with this investigation, the police said.
