Labour Ministry probing fatality at Guyana Shield Resources

The Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department received a report on Sunday 4th February, 2024, of a workplace fatality which occurred at Guyana Shield Resources Incorporated, Dora, East Bank Demerara.

The ministry said in a release yesterday that an investigation, led by Darwin Bourne, Senior Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer, began on Sunday afternoon with a visit to the accident site for an inspection and meetings with the employer,  Hilbert Shields, and other staff members.

It was reported that Lennox McPherson, a resident of Cinderella City, Linden, an excavator operator employed by the company died during the late early hours of Sunday when he was pinned by a Doosan Excavator Bucket against the track of an excavator just outside a sandpit at Dora on the East Bank of Demerara.
