Warapoka businessman dies after boats collide

The police say they are investigating the death of Vanwest Charles, a 26-year-old businessman of Warapoka Village, North West District, in Region One, who died in a boat mishap at around 17:05 hrs on 09th February 2024.

 

At about 21:00 hrs on 09th February, Noel Malvin Evans, a 43-year-old boat Captain of Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, reported to Police that at about 17:05 hrs that afternoon, he was negotiating a turn in the mid-part of the ’99 Turns’, North West District, when a smaller boat about 16 feet in length, red and blue in colour, powered by a 40 HP Yamaha Engine and captained by Vanwest Charles (now deceased), crashed into his boat (Bow area) and Charles, along with the engine, fell into the River. Charles was picked up and later succumbed whilst being escorted to seek medical attention.
