Guyana seals Sovereign Loan Programme with Canada

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni  Singh (right) today on behalf of the Government signed a Sovereign Loan Programme (SLP) agreement with the Government of Canada.

 

Signing on behalf of Canada was its Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussen, a release from the Ministry of Finance said.

 

Singh, while delivering brief remarks, said that the close  relationship that exists between Guyana and Canada now is going through a new phase, a phase rooted in economic and commercial ties and opportunities far beyond those that existed previously.

 

He further said that Guyana is particularly proud of the fact that it is the third country in the world to have concluded an SLP with Canada, and acknowledged on behalf  of Guyana, the tremendous effort made by Minister Hussen in getting Guyana to the point of being the third signatory worldwide, and the first in the Western Hemisphere to conclude a SLP with Canada.

 

This intervention is aimed at providing budgetary support to Guyana for investments in poverty reduction and, peace and security. Initiatives funded by the SLP will also contribute to Guyana’s achievement of its Sustainable Development Goals.
