Police, CANU destroy billions of dollars in narcotics

The Guyana Police Force this morning destroyed 2,253.60 kg of marijuana with a street value of approximately $2,028,240,000.

The narcotics destruction exercise occurred at the former Ministry of Housing tarmac, Homestretch Avenue, a release from the police said.

The period of the drug seizures is from January 2023 to date, and most of the seizures mainly occurred in Police Regional Divisions # 5 and #6 along with minor seizures in Regions #4 and #10.

Several person were charged and placed before the court while several plantations were found abandoned.

The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) also destroyed 512 kg equivalent to $153 million.
