One person dies in Linden fire

One person died in a fire today at Dageraad Avenue and Greenheart Street, MacKenzie, Linden, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said.

The GFS said the dead person has been identified only as Zang.

At 01:42 hours today, firefighters from the Linden Fire Station swiftly responded to a report of the fire, the GFS said.

Upon arrival at 01:49 hours, the team encountered a raging fire engulfing a wooden and concrete two-storey building.

The responders, led by Section Leader Reynolds, quickly took action, deploying Water Bowser #12 to combat the blaze.

Despite their efforts, tragically, one occupant perished.

Additionally, the property sustained irreparable damage, with both the building and its contents being completely destroyed, leaving four individuals homeless.

Utilizing two jets working from Water Bowser #12, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, preventing further devastation.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, with authorities working diligently to determine the origin and circumstances surrounding this incident.
