Ministers pledge support to families of drowned Rupununi girls

On Wednesday, 27th March, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill visited the families of the three young girls who died by drowning in Massara Village, North Rupununi.

According to a release from his office, Edghill  said that support will be provided in various forms, to help the families cope and recover from this tragedy.

Following an engagement with the parents and sibling of 5 year old Michele Jeffreys and 9 year old Alicia Dorrick (sisters) and the family members of 6 year old Nia Jeffreys (their cousin), as well as Toshao Lenny Moses, it was agreed that the two families will receive counselling and other necessary support, to assist them during this difficult time. The release said that the Regional Democratic Council is also currently supporting the families by making the funeral arrangements for the children.

Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai also visited the families yesterday and pledged support, according to the Department of Public Information.
