(Trinidad Express) Comedian and chutney singer Kenneth Supersad, of Nahh News fame, yesterday received an apology from officers of the Arouca Police Station after he had been turned away while making a robbery report on Thursday.

In an interview with the Express yesterday, 61-year-old Supersad gave his reasons for making a video that went viral after it appeared on social media earlier yesterday morning.

Supersad lives in Dinsley Gardens, Trincity, and on Wednesday night he was playing a game of pool at a bar near his home with a man whom he knows.

He admitted that the game was for a wager of $100.

“The game reached a stalemate and I decided to go home in Dinsley and on my way home (the man) followed me with a piece of iron, with which he threatened to beat me,” he said.

He said the man took $100 he had in his pocket and left him.

Supersad went home afterwards.

He said sometime on Thursday he went to the Arouca station to file a report.

“I suffer with anxiety and the incident left me badly shaken because this guy is a bully in the area,” he said.

“The police constable (name called) who I spoke to refused to take my statement and failed to give me a receipt for my report,” he said. Supersad said the constable told him to go home “and wait”, following which they (the police) would call him and let him know when he could return to the station to make a report.

“I am totally sober. I went to give the report in the station and this man (suspect) is up and down in the road in the area.

“I cannot leave home, I am very scared and this thing is affecting me, and I explained that to the officer,” he said.

“I made a video that went viral because of the way I had been treated by the police, and later this morning (yesterday) two officers from the Arouca CID came and apologised to me and promised me if I go back to the station today (Friday), they will take my statement,” he said.

Supersad made a report and was given his receipt.

“I have always had a good relationship with the police, and as an artiste I have performed for them on many occasions,” he said.

The suspect remained at large up to last night.

Probe launched

The police, in the meantime, said “upon learning of the allegations, an investigation was immediately launched into the claims of assault against Mr Supersad and the allegations of poor customer service at the police station”.

“Various persons have been interviewed and statements recorded as part of efforts being made to apprehend the suspect. Investigators have also reached out to Mr Supersad for further information as the investigation unfolds,” they said.

“The TTPS does not condone the delivery of poor service to citizens and assures members of the public that all reports of crime are treated with the utmost importance and urgency by officers,” they said.
