Trinidad: Brother-in-law charged in woman’s murder

(Trinidad Express) The brother-in-law of Deborah Gopaul has been charged with her murder.

The 49-year-old Crown Point, Tobago, man appeared virtually before a master of the High Court yesterday charged with Gopaul’s murder, which occurred on March 26.

Hilton Ollivierre, a straightener, appeared before Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami, a police statement said.

The sufficiency hearing date has been set for January 30, 2025.

Gopaul, 56, of Crown Point, Tobago, was found dead inside her burning Mazda car around 9.20 p.m. on March 26 along Claude Noel Highway near Lowlands.

Police said then that her hands were bound and the car had previously been on fire.

Her body was found in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

Gopaul was an employee of Jade Distributors on the island.

Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One Sub Office, Tobago, investigated the matter and subsequently arrested Ollivierre with the assistance of the Tobago Divisional Task Force, the Research Analytical Unit and the Criminal Records Office.
